Goju-Shorei Challenge Coin

Sensei Marta Azzam was the first person to receive the Goju-Shorei challenge coin. All Goju-Shorei Black Belts, whether in Karate, Weapons or Jujitsu will receive one of these coins for each of their Goju-Shorei Black Belts.

Challenge rules: If we are at a bar or restaurant and a Goju-Shorei challenge coin is presented all Goju-Shorei black belts must also present theirs. If a black belt does not have theirs they buy. On the other hand if all black belts have their coin then the…

I question the purpose of teaching the use of weapons that the student could never have with them in public (big surprise).

This article is from the excellent web site, …

Not Afraid To Start Over

Two newly promoted Yellow Belts in Goju-Shorei Karate.

The Little Things

Recently, in conjunction with an Obon festival, I visited a Buddhist church in a small town on the Idaho/Oregon border. The summers in that area are very hot and the unshaded doors of the church were facing directly west. In consideration for any members who chose to visit the church in the heat of the day the handles to the front doors were loosely wrapped in soft cloth. The…
