Martial Arts for the 21st Century

Friday I sat on a 4 hour Black Belt testing board for Elite Martial Arts in Nashville, Tennessee, and never left my office in Minden, Nevada.

Skype and FaceTime cuts travel time and costs to zero for events like this, and can even be used to teach distance classes.

There are several things you need to do before using this technology:

  • Pre-test the reception from the event location.
  • Mark out the viewing boundaries so you will always be able to see the participants.
  • Put someone next to the sending computer so you can alert them to any problems.
  • Make cell phone connection with another person on site.

I predict this approach will become common place as the technology continues to improve and more martial artists become comfortable with the concept. Give it a try.

I have also found it to be a great way to train with out of town martial artists!
