Goju-Shorei Systems

Martial Arts for the 21st Century

We have always had a separate ranking certificate for Karate and Weapons. They looked different had different wording, were a different color and different size.

Thanks to Nashville's Sensei Larry Kooyman, Director of Goju-Shorei Karate, for his graphics design expertise, and Alma Alvarado, a student of Master Ray Fisher from Tucson, for her Japanese translation of the Guiding Principles, we now have a new certificate for Karate and Weapons.

This reflects my desire to bring the two branches of Goju-Shorei closer together. The skills of Karate should cross over to the Weapons and visa versa. The blending of the curriculum of Karate and Weapons is something I have been preaching for sometime and one day in the future I hope it will happen.

These certificates will be available starting in January of 2011. In case you are wondering, Master Ray Fisher will be getting Certificate Number 1.

Onward and upward!

Thank you also goes out to my son, Stephen Purcell, who helped check the Japanese for grammar and context! I count a privilege to be a part of the Goju Shorei Weapons System and am grateful to Master Fisher & Soke McNeil for  their commitment to the art!

I am honored (it actually happened by chance) that I will recieve the 1st certicate of the new design.
I will continue to hold myself to the standards of our system as exemplified by my teacher, Soke McNeill.
